Piraeus, the Greek Port has now become the Mediterranean’s top container-handling port. The port, located just outside of Athens, handled the equivalent of 5.65 million TEUs last year, becoming the tope performing port in the region. The company that manages the port is majority owned by China’s giant Cosco Shipping conglomerate. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic the number of containers being handled has been holding up well. Recently a contract has been signed for three gantry cranes with Cosco Shipping Port (CSP) for Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), via an online meeting between Shanghai, Hong Kong and Greece.
